Iran opposition clashes with police
Mon Dec 7, 2009 4:33pm EST
By Parisa Hafezi

TEHRAN (Reuters) - Iranian security forces fired warning shots in Tehran on Monday and beat opposition protesters among thousands seeking to renew their challenge to the government six months after a disputed election, witnesses said.

The security forces fired shots into the air as they clashed with supporters of opposition leader Mirhossein Mousavi at a state rally marking the killing of three students under the former Shah, the reformist website Mowjcamp said.

Dolphins will be deployed at Bangor starting next yr

BANGOR — Specially trained Atlantic bottlenose dolphins and California sea lions will help guard Naval Base Kitsap-Bangor starting next year, the Navy announced Wednesday.

Their job will be to stop swimmers or divers from infiltrating the Trident submarine base. Marine mammals are already being used to find possible intruders at other Navy bases, including at King’s Bay, Ga., the home of the rest of the nation’s Trident fleet. It is the culmination of a 3 1/2 year environmental process to clear the way for what the Navy calls a swimmer interdiction security system.

The Navy looked at several options to protect against possible attack from swimmers, but officials said they couldn’t find a better way of meeting new terrorism-driven security requirements. The marine mammals were its preferred alternative from the beginning.

Other finalists included combat swimmers or using remotely-operated vehicles. Neither system exists, however, and would have had to be developed, and neither could detect intruders. They could only respond after being alerted by an existing detection system.

Dolphins and sea lions can find intruders by themselves and have been doing so for years at other bases, the Navy said. more

USS BATAAN, At Sea (NNS) -- The Bataan Amphibious Ready Group (ARG) and the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) officially departed 5th Fleet and entered 6th Fleet's Area of Operations when the multipurpose amphibious assault ship USS Bataan (LHD 5) transited the Suez Canal and entered into the Mediterranean Sea recently.

The Bataan ARG, which had been conducting maritime security operations in 5th Fleet's Area of Operations, and the 22nd MEU, which served as the theater reserve force for U.S. Central Command, participated in several theater security cooperation engagements and exercises, including Bright Star 2009, 5th Fleet's largest multinational exercise, held every two years.

"The 5th Fleet Area of Operations is one of the most critical regions in the maritime security environment," said Capt. Paul McElroy, commanding officer of Bataan ARG. "The operations we conducted and the exercises we participated in were all geared towards strengthening our regional partnerships and improving security and stability within the region."

5th Fleet's Area of Responsibility encompasses 2.5 million square miles of water and includes the Persian Gulf, the Arabian Sea, the Red Sea, the Gulf of Aden, the Gulf of Oman and parts of the Indian Ocean.

Fort Hood, Texas (CNN) -- The suspect in last week's deadly shooting spree at Fort Hood urged in 2007 that Muslims in the U.S. Army be allowed to claim conscientious objector status when it comes to fighting other Muslims in war, a defense official said Tuesday.
Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan also discussed religious aspects of Islam during a presentation at Walter Reed Army Medical Center as part of a final project for his residency tenure, said the official, who has knowledge of the investigation into Hasan.
"It's getting harder and harder for Muslims in the service to morally justify being in a military that seems constantly engaged against fellow Muslims," Hasan said, according to a slide show that The Washington Post said Hasan used in the June 2007 presentation. more @CNN

An Obama “Olive Branch” for Osama bin Laden?

by the year 2019 America should have elected its first openly Jihad president

By John Lillpop Sunday, November 15, 2009
-Satire-

Rumor has it that President Barack Obama has used “back channels” to deliver the following olive branch to Osama bin Laden.

Dear Fellow Muslim:

Praise be to Allah!

It is with great hope and audacity that I present to you an offer for reconciliation between your noble Al-Quaeda operatives and the once-great forces of the United States of America.

Allah willing, of course.

This offer, which must never be made transparent to the media or public, is predicated on the notion that Islam is the new and only super power in the world. It is further understood that the sooner that that reality is accepted by American capitalists and Democracy-crazed politicians, the better it will be for all concerned parties.

As you are doubtless aware, I have taken several steps since January to realign America’s financial and political priorities so as to accommodate a smooth, seamless transition to a Jihad state where Sharia law will replace the archaic and bothersome U.S. Constitution.

Among my early successes is the order to close GITMO, slashing of the U.S. military budget, the requirement that all ‘terrorists’ captured on the battlefield be notified of their Constitutional rights and be offered free legal representation and a free swine flu shot, and on and on it goes.

You can tell that my efforts to “Islamicize” America are spot on because Republicans oppose them vehemently, while Democrats absolutely love them!

My proudest moment to date is the transfer of Khalid Sheikh Mohammed to New York where he will be treated like a U.S. citizen, including processing of his case through the civilian judicial system, a move that damn near guarantees acquittal, or at least an appeal which could take ten years to adjudicate.

According to my Attorney General, Eric Holder, by the year 2019 America should have elected its first openly Jihad president which means that KSM would be pardoned immediately, probably as part of the elected brother’s inaugural speech.

By the way, KSM sends his warm regards and asks that you postpone any further 9/11 attacks on New York until his trial is over. Upon acquittal, KSM plans to move to San Francisco in order to take advantage of that town’s “Sanctuary City” idiocy.

Exclusive: ‘Muslim Mafia’ Author Talks to FSM about the Fort Hood Massacre

Exclusive: 'Muslim Mafia' Author Talks to FSM about the Fort Hood Massacre
The Editors
In the wake of the Fort Hood massacre, Americans are asking many questions. It’s been called a “tragedy” by some, as though it were an unavoidable natural catastrophe, but the fact remains that the bloodbath only has one suspect: Major Nidal Malik Hasan. What were his motives? Stress, as has been suggested? Or something more sinister, like jihad? Family Security Matters’ Pam Meister caught up with FSM contributing editor Dave Gaubatz, one of the authors of Muslim Mafia: Inside the Secret Underworld that’s Trying to Islamize America for his opinions and insights on what could well be a watershed event in the fight against Islamic terror.

Family Security Matters: We're being told not to jump to conclusions about Maj. Hasan's motives for the killings. Based on your experience, what does your instinct tell you?

Dave Gaubatz: We should have been jumping to conclusions several months ago in regards to Maj. Hasan and his erratic actions. Being proactive in this case did nothing more than allow Maj. Hasan to (allegedly) kill innocent men, women, and children. The worst mistake the FBI does in every instance such as this is to inform the American public there are no ties to terrorism. This is giving the American people a false sense of security and it is no more than a lie by law enforcement. A tragic shooting can never be resolved within a few minutes and no motive for the attack should ever be ruled out until all the evidence has been fully evaluated.

FSM: According to some relatives, Maj. Hasan was harassed because he is a Muslim. But according to Dr. Val Finnell, one of Hasan's classmates in a 2007-08 master's public health program at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Maryland, said that at a class presentation by public health students, at which topics like dry cleaning chemicals and house mold were discussed, Hasan talked about U.S. military actions as a war on Islam. Hasan made clear he was a "vociferous opponent" of U.S. wars in Muslim countries, Finnell said. "He made himself a lightning rod for things," Finnell said. "No one picked on him because he was a Muslim." Based on your knowledge of the military, would you agree or disagree that Muslims were more likely to be harassed than others?

DG: The liberal media and their supporters will jump on the bandwagon to try and find excuses for Maj. Hasan. Maj. Hasan was an officer in the U.S. Army and few enlisted personnel would come close to trying to intimidate an officer. It is a simple court martial offense. Maj. Hasan studied the violent ideology of the Muslim Brotherhood that calls for killing innocent anyone who oppresses Islam. This ideology is taught on U.S. military bases and in mosques near the installations. [Editor’s note: A new report indicates that Hasan attended the controversial Dar al-Hijrah mosque in Great Falls, Virginia, in 2001 at the same time as two of the September 11th terrorists.]

“Islam wishes to destroy all States and Governments anywhere on the face of the earth which are opposed to the ideology and programme of Islam regardless of the country or the Nation which rules it. Islam requires the earth—not just a portion, but the whole planet. Towards this end, Islam wishes to press into service all forces which can bring about a revolution and a composite term for the use of all these forces is ‘Jihad’.

War On Terror: The Fort Hood terrorist is being portrayed as an "anomaly," an "aberration," a "lone wolf." Sadly, he's just one of many examples of jihadist traitors in the ranks of the military.

Together they form a dangerous Fifth Column, and the Pentagon — thanks to institutionalized political correctness — is doing next to nothing to root them out .

Instead, brass are actively recruiting Muslim soldiers — whose ranks have swelled to more than 15,000 — and catering to their faith by erecting mosques even at Marine headquarters in Quantico, Va. More, they're hiring Muslim chaplains endorsed by radical Islamic front groups, who convert and radicalize soldiers. more @investors.com via @FSM

Accused 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed 'will be subject to the most exacting demands of justice,' President Obama said Friday.

Posted: November 13th, 2009 08:43 AM ET

TOKYO, Japan (CNN) –Accused 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed "will be subject to the most exacting demands of justice," President Obama said Friday.

"The American people insist on it, and my administration will insist on it," Obama told reporters at a joint news conference with Japanese Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama.

He was responding to a reporter's question about media reports that Mohammed will be tried in a federal court in New York, instead of by a military commission.

Obama would not confirm those reports, saying he did not want to preempt an announcement later in the day by U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder. more

Accused 9/11 plotter Khalid Sheikh Mohammed faces New York trial
November 13, 2009 -- Updated 1633 GMT (0033 HKT)

Khalid Sheikh Mohammed reportedly confessed to being the mastermind of the 9/11 attacks after being waterboarded.

Washington (CNN) -- Five Guantanamo Bay detainees with alleged ties to the 9/11 conspiracy, including accused mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, will be transferred to New York to go on trial in civilian court, Attorney General Eric Holder announced Friday.
Mohammed, Ramzi Bin al-Shibh, Walid bin Attash, Ali Abdul Aziz Ali and Mustafa Ahmed al-Hawsawi will all be transferred to the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York -- a short distance from the World Trade Center towers that were destroyed in the September 11 attacks.
"After eight years of delay, those allegedly responsible for the attacks of September 11th will finally face justice," Holder said.
He said he expected prosecutors to seek the death penalty. more

Army Wasn't Told of Hasan's Emails

President Barack Obama walks past the helmets and rifles of slain soldiers on his way to address a memorial service Tuesday at Fort Hood, Texas. The traditional military tribute included hymns and a roll call with the names of the 13 men and women who died in last week's shooting rampage at the sprawling Army base.

Pentagon Says It Only Learned of Shooting Suspect's Contacts With Cleric After the Fort Hood Killings

The Pentagon said it was never notified by U.S. intelligence agencies that they had intercepted emails between the alleged Fort Hood shooter and an extremist imam until after last week's bloody assaults, raising new questions about whether the government could have helped prevent the attack.

A top defense official said federal investigators didn't tell the Pentagon they were looking into months of contacts between Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan and Anwar al-Awlaki. The imam knew three of the Sept. 11 hijackers and hailed Maj. Hasan as a "hero" after the shooting last week at Fort Hood that left 13 people dead.

"Based on what we know now, neither the United States Army nor any other organization within the Department of Defense knew of Maj. Hasan's contacts with any Muslim extremists," the official said. Keep reading @WSJ via @ intellectual conservative

Feds Seize Radical Mosques, NYC Skyscaper Funneling Millions to Iran

Thursday, November 12, 2009 5:25 PM

NEW YORK -- Federal prosecutors Thursday took steps to seize four U.S. mosques and a Fifth Avenue skyscraper owned by a nonprofit Muslim organization long suspected of being secretly controlled by the Iranian government.

In what could prove to be one of the biggest counterterrorism seizures in U.S. history, prosecutors filed a civil complaint in federal court seeking the forfeiture of more than $500 million in assets of the Alavi Foundation and an alleged front company.

The assets include Islamic centers in New York City, Maryland, California and Houston, more than 100 acres in Virginia, and a 36-story office tower in New York. read more via @1913intel

Barack Obama decision on Afghan troops 'in days', Gordon Brown says

The Prime Minister told MPs he has spoken to the US president and expects a statement from the White House soon.

Mr Obama is now in his third month of deliberations about a military request for another 40,000 US troops in Afghanistan.

The Daily Telegraph revealed last week that there is growing frustration in Whitehall at the US president’s prolonged deliberations over Afghanistan.

Britain has 9,000 troops in Afghanistan and Mr Brown has already authorised another 500.

He said he wants Nato allies to follow suit.

Mr Brown told MPs: "We're the first country to have agreed to send additional troops for the next stage of the mission in Afghanistan and we are seeking to persuade other countries to join us in this."

He added: “I have also talked to President Obama and I expect him to announce in a few days what his numbers for Afghanistan will be.” read more

Obama seeks revisions to Afghanistan plans, sources say

By Suzanne Malveaux and Mike Mount, CNN
November 12, 2009 -- Updated 0408 GMT (1208 HKT)

Washington (CNN) -- President Obama told his war council Wednesday that the U.S. troop commitment to Afghanistan is not open-ended, and he asked for revisions to options he previously received for sending more troops, a senior administration official told CNN.

The war council -- made up of top Cabinet, Pentagon and administration officials -- met with Obama for the eighth time to discuss a request by the top U.S. commander in Afghanistan for up to 40,000 more troops. The meeting lasted more than two hours, according to the senior administration official.

"The president and his team discussed the length of time that it would take to implement the options he's been presented," the senior official said. "The president believes that we need to make clear to the Afghan government that our commitment is not open-ended. After years of substantial investments by the American people, governance in Afghanistan must improve in a reasonable period of time to ensure a successful transition to our Afghan partner."

In particular, Obama pushed for revisions in proposed plans for troop increases to clarify how and when U.S. troops would turn over responsibility to the Afghan government, the official said.

Onthis Remembrance Day, Canadians will vow to honour the sacrifices of all the soldiers who fought in all our wars, including the brave men and women serving now in Afghanistan. Journal reporter Ryan Cormier, who has covered the war in Afghanistan, sat down recently with Warrant Officer Willy MacDonald and Capt. Jon Hamilton to talk about one of the deadliest battles Canadians have fought since the mission began there seven years ago.

Trapped in the washroom near an abandoned schoolhouse, with Taliban bullets peppering the concrete walls from three sides, Warrant Officer Willy MacDonald felt the battle shift from win or lose, to live or die.

His fellow soldiers were pinned down in a nearby building, close enough to yell a sketch of a plan to each other over the barrage of insurgent machine guns. In the scorching heat of a late Afghanistan summer, mouths full of dust, soldiers coated in sweat guzzled warm water and fought the vertigo of heat exhaustion. more

This Week In Conservative Media: When it Comes to Fort Hood, Why Ask Why?
Eve Conant Newsweek
“I could not believe I was hearing that question all weekend: why did he do it? Why did a Muslim, in touch with Al Qaeda, open fire on U.S. military personnel?” asks Rush Limbaugh. “I tell you something, folks, political correctness and a lot of other things are gonna lead to our downfall.” Limbaugh also discusses how the House Judiciary Committee just voted to strip the Patriot Act of a provision allowing the government to spy on people who are not linked to known terrorist groups, i.e. “lone wolves.”

The question of whether alleged gunman Nidal Malik Hasan is a lone-wolf madman or a terrorist with links to Al Qaeda is driving many commentators up the wall. Last week we reported that many in the conservative media were asking that same question. But that soul searching moment seems to have passed.

Laura Ingraham links to a WSJ op-ed by Dorothy Rabinowitz that takes on Dr. Phil and lays out the basic question: why on earth is anyone trying to figure out something so clear? “What is hard to ignore, now, is the growing derangement on all matters involving terrorism and Muslim sensitivities. Its chief symptoms: a palpitating fear of discomfiting facts and a willingness to discard those facts and embrace the richest possible variety of ludicrous theories as to the motives behind an act of Islamic terrorism." more

What interpretation of Islam influ enced Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan? As often before, the trail leads to the official sect of Saudi Arabia -- known as Wahhabism to most of us of who denounce it.
Confronting the role of radical Islam here is not Islamophobic, but common sense -- and the first response moderate Muslims themselves will have.
Hasan, though born in America, refused to have his picture taken with women -- an attitude distinct to fundamentalist radicalism among Muslims. The Prophet Mohammed cautioned his followers that when they go to live in non-Muslim lands they must accept the laws and customs of their new home. Millions of American Muslims get their picture taken with women, even ones not their wives, and don't worry about it. To refuse such an elementary and even trivial act of courtesy sets Muslims apart -- and that is the aim of radicals

The Muslim Brotherhood

Hassan al-Banna
According to former CIA operative Robert Baer, Hamas was an offshoot of the Egyptian branch of the Muslim Brotherhood (172). Founded in 1928 by an Egyptian schoolteacher named Hassan al-Banna with the expressed purpose of purifying Islam, the Muslim Brotherhood is anything but a benign Muslim organization (172). According to Baer, the Brotherhood "is another of the cauldrons from which al Qaeda emerged" (172). Khalid Sheik Mohammed, the architect of the September 11 attacks, joined the Muslim Brotherhood at the age of sixteen and attended the Brotherhood's desert youth camps (Mintz and Farah, "In Search of Friends Among Foes"). Ayman Zawahiri, Osama bin Laden's deputy, was a member of the Muslim Brotherhood's Egyptian branch (ibid). According to Seymour Hersh, the Brotherhood may have even been involved in the September 11 attacks. Hersh states: "Many of the September 11th hijackers had operated out of cells in Aachen and Hamburg, where Al Qaeda was working with the Brotherhood" ("The Syrian Bet"). The Brotherhood's hatred of the United States was clearly expressed in a 1991 internal memorandum written by Mohamed Akram for the Shura Council of the Muslim Brotherhood. Entitled "An Explanatory Memorandum on the General Strategic Goal for the Brotherhood in North America," the document states that the Brotherhood's activities in the United States represent:
a kind of grand Jihad in eliminating and destroying the Western civilization from within and "sabotaging" its miserable house by their hands and the hands of the believers so that it is eliminated and God's religion is made victorious over all other religions. violent messages being preached outside a New York mosque

Outside a Manhattan mosque where the imam preaches against terrorism, the brothers of the "Revolution Muslim" are spreading a different message.

Protected by the Constitution of the country they detest, radical Muslim converts like Yousef al-Khattab and Younes Abdullah Mohammed preach that the killing of U.S. troops overseas is justified. In their thinking, so were the September 11, 2001, attacks on the United States - and so are attacks on almost any American.

"Americans will always be a target - and a legitimate target - until America changes its nature in the international arena," Mohammed said.

Al-Khattab and Mohammed consider al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden their model.

Regime supporters apparently accidentally set ablaze a flag of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the semi-official Mehr News Agency posted it on its site.

From Tehran Bureau correspondent in Tehran (translated):

Metro stops for Taleghani and Ferdowsi were closed this morning, so I had to go all the way to Enghelab. But that way I did walk past the University of Tehran's gates, which were highly policed. Riot police were lined up every 20 meters or so all the way to Ferdowsi. I made it to Vali Asr and then walked North to Taleghani St. to make my way towards the old Embassy.

It was 10:30 am at this time. Hundreds of buses (that had brought in pro-regime supporters) lined Taleghani street, and I started to see some pro-regime marchers coming my way. Lots of groups of kids, separated into boys and girls, marched rather insipidly and sometimes shouted "Marg bar America" -- for them this is an annual political ritual with little meaning. I made it to the West end of the pro-regime protests; there were lots of people there and guards were no longer letting anyone in. I headed North to see if I could catch a glimpse of the opposition protests coming out of Haft-e Tir square. By this time (11 am) cellphones were not sending calls or texts at all. more
