Washington, 23 October (WashingtonTV)—The British Museum will send a staffer to Iran to discuss details of the loan of an ancient artifact, after Tehran warned it would cease cultural and scientific cooperation with London, reports said on Thursday.

The artifact, the Cyrus Cylinder, was scheduled to be given to Iran on loan in September. However, the British Museum backed out of the agreement, citing the post-election unrest, according to Iran’s state-funded Press TV network.

The clay cylinder, dating back to the 6th century BC, is inscribed in Babylonian cuneiform, and has been described as the world’s earliest charter of human rights. more
